March 2016 Eagle Newsletter

Aloha Nimitz ‘Ohana,

Congratulations to all of our Grade 3 – 6 students who participated in the annual Radford Complex Speech Festival on Saturday, February 6, 2016. The students did a great job with their presentations. A special thanks to Mrs. Darci Muromoto, Mrs. Jan Shota, and Mrs. Jessica Osborne for taking the lead in coordinating the Speech Festival along with the rest of our Grade 3-6 teachers who helped prepare our students for this memorable event.

There was a tremendous turn out for our McTeacher’s Night on Thursday, February 25, 2016. Many of our families came in support of the school. The teachers worked really hard but had fun at the same time. We want to thank our PCNC, Mrs. Berenice Saavedra, for coordinating this fundraiser and making the “eye-catching” signs with the help of our parent volunteers.

We appreciate your continued support by ensuring that your child in Grades 2-6 completes at least one article per week at home on the Achieve3000 program. According to the most recent Achieve3000 report, 90% of our students are using Achieve3000 outside of school hours. This is a 4% increase from last school year. Research on adolescent literacy suggests that the amount of reading students do during out of school hours is an accurate predictor of their in-school academic achievement. Way to go!

The Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA) testing window for Grades 3-6 will be from Monday, April 25 – Friday, May 6, 2016. The students in Grades K-2 will be taking the TerraNova from Monday, April 25 – Friday, April 29, 2016. More information will be sent home with your child.
As we come to the end of the 3rd Quarter, I want to thank you for supporting our school activities.

Have a fun and safe Spring Intersession. We will see you back on Tuesday, March 29, 2016.

Mahalo,

Marcy Kagami
Principal
