February 2016 Eagle Newsletter

Aloha Nimitz Ohana,
We want to thank our PTO for their donation of $3,430.62 that was collected from the Jingle Bell Fun Run t-shirt sales. This donation will go towards the resurfacing of our school’s basketball court this summer. We appreciate all the families and school staff who purchased t-shirts in support of this fundraiser.

Congratulations to our boys and girls basketball team who participated in the Radford Complex Tournament at Radford High School. I would like to acknowledge our coaches, Mr. Ryan Kam, Miss Erin Kam, Mr. Todd Matsumoto, and Miss Helen Park for preparing our students for this event. Thank you to the coaches and players for doing a fine job representing our school.
Starting Tuesday, February 16, 2016 – Friday, March 4, 2016, the teachers will begin preparing our 3rd - 6th graders for the Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA) by administering the Interim Comprehensive Assessment to get ready for the actual test in April. The test will measure not only what students know but how well they can apply their knowledge in real-world situations. If you are interested in assisting with your child’s preparation, there is an online practice test that can be
accessed through a link on the Nimitz website or directly to alohahsap.org/SMARTERBALANCED/students/.

On Tuesday, February 16, 2016 and Thursday, February 18, 2016, our 4th graders will be participating in the Hawaii State Assessment (HSA) for Science. This test is aligned to the 4th grade science Hawaii Content and Performance Standards III (HCPSIII). It is especially important that your child gets a good night’s sleep and have a healthy breakfast the morning of the assessment.

Finally, please join us for McTeacher Night on Thursday, February 25, 2016 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm at the McDonalds located at the Moanalua Shopping Center. Hope to see you there!

Mahalo,

Marcy Kagami
